John is a finalist for the Better Homes and Gardens Creator Awards 2026.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The BHG Creator Awards celebrate individuals who are building passionate communities through practical creativity. Recognising grassroots creators and community builders, the awards span six categories: Art & Design, Craft & DIY, Garden & Environment, Food, and Sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m pleased to share that I have been selected as one of six finalists in the Visual Artist category, alongside an inspiring group of creatives: Rachel Castle, Jacklyn Foster, Jonathan W. Gemmell, Dee Smart, and Christopher Zanko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winners will be announced at the awards event held at the State Library of NSW in Sydney on Saturday, 2 May at 12pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Floroscuro<\/em> – Scott Livesey Galleries (Mid-September to Mid-October 2026)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This exhibition explores the interplay of dichotomies\u2014hard and soft, nature and artifice, intimacy and exhibitionism\u2014through a synthesis of botanical art, homoerotic imagery, and fetish aesthetics. Inspired by the works of Robert Mapplethorpe and Tom of Finland, the project delves into the juxtaposition of delicate, organic forms with bold, anthropomorphic and fetishist imagery, creating a dialogue that is as sensual as it is subversive. I aim to create a body of work that challenges traditional binaries by merging disparate visual languages, to celebrate queer identity, fetish culture, and botanical beauty in a way that is unapologetically provocative. I plan to provoke thought on the intersection of human desire, natural forms, and cultural symbolism. This collection of work aims to be a visually arresting and thought-provoking exploration of contrasts, identities, and desires. By merging the botanical with the erotic, the natural with the subversive, the project seeks to redefine how we perceive beauty, power, and intimacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
